With just four matches left in the Kenyan Premier League season, Bidco United head coach Anthony Akhulia remains hopeful his side can avoid relegation despite a difficult campaign.
Bidco head into a crucial clash against Tusker FC sitting 17th on the table with 24 points — one place above already relegated Sofapaka FC.
Their opponents Tusker sit eighth with 41 points, but both sides arrive in shaky form heading into the weekend encounter.
Tusker have managed just one win in their last five matches, losing three and drawing one, while Bidco remain winless in the same period with three defeats and two draws.
Speaking ahead of the must-win encounter, Akhulia offered a candid assessment of where the season has gone wrong, pointing to failures in tactics, mentality, and execution.
“In all the above aspects. There are matches I feel tactically we didn’t get them right. We lost matches that we shouldn’t have lost and dropped points that would have kept us among the top teams.”
The Bidco coach also admitted that his side has struggled mentally, particularly after conceding goals.
“We are weak mentally. We have been struggling every time we conceded.”
A lack of cutting edge in front of goal has also hurt the team throughout the campaign.
“We are poor in execution. That’s why we have scored the least number of goals.”
Despite those challenges, Akhulia insists Bidco’s fate remains in their own hands and believes the team can still produce another late escape.
“Yes, just the way it did last season, it can still do it. It’s football and anything can happen.”
With survival now hanging by a thread, Bidco face a defining final stretch in their battle to remain in the top flight.
