Brentford ended an eight-game home winless streak in dramatic fashion, defeating Brighton & Hove Albion 4-2 in a pulsating Premier League encounter at the Gtech Community Stadium. Bryan Mbeumo’s brace and Yoane Wissa’s clinical finish propelled the Bees to a vital victory, while Brighton’s European hopes took another hit amid growing fan frustration.
The hosts struck first in the 9th minute when Keane Lewis-Potter’s defense-splitting pass sent Mbeumo through on goal, and the Cameroonian calmly slotted past Bart Verbruggen. Brighton responded just before halftime as Danny Welbeck nodded in Mats Wieffer’s cross to level.

Brentford surged ahead again three minutes into the second half, with Mbeumo’s deflected strike wrong-footing Verbruggen. The duo combined again in the 58th minute, as Mbeumo squared for Wissa to fire home via a deflection off Lewis Dunk.
Brighton’s woes deepened when João Pedro was sent off for lashing out at Nathan Collins, but substitute Kaoru Mitoma reduced the deficit at 81 minutes with a composed finish. However, Brentford captain Christian Nørgaard sealed the win in stoppage time, heading in Mathias Jensen’s free-kick. A late collision between Jan Paul van Hecke and Yunus Konak caused a lengthy stoppage, though both players were reported stable post-match.
The result lifts Brentford to 11th (46 points), now just two points behind 10th-placed Brighton, keeping their faint European hopes alive. Thomas Frank hailed his side’s attacking verve: “We were back to our best—so dangerous and a pleasure to watch. The first 15 minutes of both halves were fantastic”.
For Brighton, the defeat extends their winless run to five matches, leaving them six points adrift of the European spots. Manager Fabian Hurzeler lamented “too many easy mistakes,” while fans chanted “You don’t know what you’re doing” after controversial substitutions.
Striker Welbeck criticized the team’s lack of cohesion: “We need to fight for each other more”
Brentford’s dynamic duo of Mbeumo (18 goals) and Wissa (16 goals) continue to shine, ranking among the league’s top scorers 10. Brighton, meanwhile, must regroup quickly to salvage their fading ambitions. This clash encapsulated the Premier League’s unpredictability—a blend of brilliance, drama, and high stakes.
