Wolves Roar to Historic Fourth Straight Win as Spurs’ Woes Deepen

Wolverhampton Wanderers have secured their first-ever Premier League four-game winning streak with a chaotic 4-2 victory. Spurs’ individual errors gifted Wolves their goals, deepening Ange Postecoglou’s managerial woes and leaving Tottenham’s season hanging by a thread ahead of their Europa League quarter-final decider.

Wolves capitalized on Spurs’ shaky defense from the opening minute, with Rayan Aït-Nouri scoring the fastest Premier League goal in the club’s history (1:25).

A comical Djed Spence own goal doubled the lead before halftime, while Jørgen Strand Larsen and substitute Matheus Cunha sealed the win despite Mathys Tel and Richarlison briefly reviving Spurs’ hopes. The result leaves Wolves 16th, 14 points clear of relegation, while Tottenham languish in 15th, just two points above their hosts.

Wolves struck immediately after a soft foul by Pape Sarr led to a free-kick. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s delivery was punched weakly by Guglielmo Vicario, landing perfectly for Aït-Nouri to volley a bouncing shot into the far corner. A lengthy VAR check upheld the goal despite Spurs’ protests over a potential offside interference.

Vicario’s nightmare continued as he parried Marshall Munetsi’s header directly onto Spence, the ball ricocheting off the defender’s chest into the net. The own goal epitomized Spurs’ defensive disarray, with Vicario criticized for indecision.

Substitute Lucas Bergvall sparked life into Spurs, driving forward to release Brennan Johnson down the right. Johnson’s low cross evaded Nelson Semedo, allowing Tel to tap in at the far post for his second league goal in as many games.

Spurs’ hope was short-lived. Cristian Romero’s casual attempt to shield the ball from Aït-Nouri backfired, allowing the Algerian to steal possession and square for Larsen to slot into an empty net.

A Bergvall corner led to chaos in Wolves’ box. Romero’s header was tipped onto the crossbar by José Sá, and Richarlison pounced on the rebound from close rang.

Just 101 seconds after Spurs’ second, Bergvall lost possession near halfway. Cunha, fresh off a four-game suspension, raced through, rounded Ben Davies, and coolly finished past Vicario to seal the win.

The Spurs boss admitted frustration but defended his players: “We controlled large parts, but individual errors cost us. It’s unusual for reliable players like Romero and Bergvall to make such mistakes in one game” . He confirmed Son Heung-min’s absence was precautionary ahead of Thursday’s Europa League decider, calling the Frankfurt tie “the defining game of our season”.

Pereira praised his team’s ruthlessness: “We took advantage of their mistakes and showed hunger. Now we target a fifth straight win.” On Cunha’s return, he added, “He proved his commitment. We’re a family, and together we’re stronger.

While Wolves edge closer to safety, Tottenham’s season teeters on collapse. Postecoglou’s rotated side showed flashes of attacking intent, but their defensive naivety proved fatal. With Europa League progression now critical, Spurs must rediscover resilience—and fast. For Wolves, this victory cements their resurgence under Pereira, blending pragmatism with opportunism to climb clear of the drop zone.
