A couple of new players have joined the Junior golf Foundation US Kids Golf Tour as the series landed in Thika on Sunday September 17.
But the usual names ruled in their categories with improved scores from the last tournament. Kusharga Sharma was the best in the boys 15-18 years category with an impressive score of 79. He was followed by Aiden Muturi on 94 and Jabari Ongwae on 103 in the competition that attracted seven golfers.

In the girls’ 15-18 years category, Hazel Kuria emerged the best despite missing her personal target by two shots. She had a score of 87, two better than Navya Nagda on 89. Cherise Wachira had a rough day but finished third with a score of 93.
“My drives were all over the place. I hit like one or two fairways, but the ups is that I was able to capitalize on the par threes. My putting was there and I just had to stay focused and do what I could, which is make pars when I can and if not, just try for bogey,” said Kuria.
In the boys’ 12, Amar Shah was in a class of his own with an impressive 72, nine shots ahead of second placed Aidan Gachora and Justin Ngeera who tied on 81. Kahir Lada scored 83 with Kristen Maina rounding up the top five with 85.
“Today I had a good day. I started with a birdie but the rest of the nine wasn’t the best. But my other nine was very good! Before I start my rounds, I always try to be positive, and when I started, since I wasn’t playing well, I didn’t think I was going to play as good as I did,” said a beamingAmar.
In other results, Kanana Muthomi was the best in the girls’ 11-12 with 77 gross points. She was followed by Nikini Pasha with 82 and Bianca Dave with 94.
Aarush Vara emerged the winner in the Boys 13-14 years category with a score of 82. He was one stroke ahead of Nathan Mwangi with 83 with Yuvraj Rajput and Tsevi Soni tied on 84.
136 junior golfers took part in the competition across 14 age categories. The JGF US Kids golf Local tour is sponsored by NCBA bank.
