Azam TV Becomes Official Broadcast Partner for FKF Premier League

Football Kenya Federation has officially unveiled Azam TV as the official broadcast partner for the FKF Premier League in a ceremony held at BOMA Hotel in South C.
The broadcast deal will last 7 years and will be worth 1 million US Dollars per year which is equivalent to Ksh. 145,400,000 in the current exchange rate. As per the contract, the amount will increase by 100,000 US dollars per year as the parties seek to uplift the face of Kenyan football.
There is a clause within the contract that will allow an unnamed broadcaster to air matches free of charge to ensure that the league receives sufficient coverage.
The broadcaster will cover the matches that Azam TV will deem surplus to their requirements hence not compromising the deal.
Speaking during the launch, Azam Media Limited Chief Operations Officer Yahya Mohamed urged FKF to consider having evening matches as it was an ideal time for Kenyans and people in East Africa to watch TV.
He further added that Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards should play on different days so that many people get the opportunity to watch the biggest clubs in Kenya.

“From our experience, it’s very difficult to market the league, players, and products with high profile games kicking off as early as 3PM. Big teams like Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards should also ideally not play on the same day.” said Yahya.

FKF President Nick Mwendwa expressed gratitude to the Tanzanian broadcaster for investing in Kenyan football to ensure it grows to the next level.

“We thank Azam Media for agreeing to partner with us. This partnership will go a long way in improving the visibility of the league and in the long run, making our league even more competitive,” said Nick Mwendwa.

“As a Federation, we remain committed to the development of Kenyan football and as such, we shall continue seeking partnerships with like minded companies with a view of increasing the commercial value of the league,” he added.
The amounts that each team will get will be announced later once the Federation finalizes two other deals they are working on.
To watch FKFPL through Azam, fans will be required to purchase an Azam TV decoder, the decoders are sold across the country. Fans will also be required to purchase packages ranging from Kshs 1400-300 to watch their favorite teams play.
Azam TV also has an app on the Google Play Store that fans can download and enjoy football from wherever they are.
