African champions Senegal has qualified to the FIFA World cup knockout stage after beating Ecuador 2-1 in their last group A match. The victory saw Aliou Cisse’s side qualify as runners up in group A alongside group leaders Netherlands.
This is the second time the African champions are making it to this stage since 2002. Senegal took the lead in the 44th minute from a penalty won and converted by Watford forward Ismaila Sarr.
Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo cancelled out the penalty in the 67th minute after converting Felix Torres cross. Captain fantastic Kalidou Koulibaly ensured Senegal was through to the last 16 with a 70th minute goal.
Senegal could face England if the ‘Three Lions’ top group B.
