Gor Mahia Gets Transfer Embargo Lifted by FIFA Following Settlement

Reigning FKF Premier League champions, Gor Mahia, can finally breathe a sigh of relief as FIFA has officially lifted their transfer embargo, which will enable the club to proceed with registering their new players to beef up the squad for the upcoming football season.

The transfer ban had been imposed on Gor Mahia after a dispute arose with their former player, Jules Ulimwengu. The club has successfully resolved the issue by settling all the outstanding dues owed to the Burundian player. Ulimwengu, who had moved to FIFA to address the matter, accused the club of failing to pay him Kshs 950,000. FIFA ruled in his favor, prompting the transfer embargo.

Gor Mahia’s management had maintained that there was a pre-existing agreement in place to settle Ulimwengu’s dues through a payment plan. Ray Oruo, the CEO of the club, highlighted that there had been communication addressing the matter, despite Ulimwengu’s decision to involve FIFA. This development was communicated to the public in May this year.

Ulimwengu had joined Gor Mahia in September 2020 from Rwandan side Rayon Sport. He concluded his tenure with the club in 2022 after his contract expired. Presently, the 24-year-old forward is part of the Green Eagles team competing in the Zambian Super League.

With the transfer embargo lifted, Gor Mahia is now in a position to register their new signings, which include Kevin Juma, Lawrence Juma, Alvin Ochieng, Kennedy Onyango, Kevin Omondi, and Rooney Onyango. This opportunity will undoubtedly provide the club with a fresh injection of talent as they prepare for their upcoming matches.

Under the leadership of Jonathan McKinistry, Gor Mahia is gearing up to face Kakamega Homeboys, the Mozzart Bet Cup champions, this weekend in the FKF Charity Shield. The much-anticipated match will take place at MISC Kasarani, offering fans an exciting glimpse of what the season has in store.
