On Tuesday, 1st August 2023, Nick Mwendwa, the President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), visited two National Schools, St Joseph’s Kitale, and St Anthony’s Boys’ Kitale, in preparation for the upcoming FIFA for Schools program, set to commence in September.

Mwendwa first visited St Joseph’s Boys, also known as JOBO, courtesy of Chief Principal Cosmas Nabungolo. He then proceeded to St Anthony’s Boys, commonly referred to as the Solidarity Boys, with the purpose of discussing issues related to talent development.
During his visits, the FKF President commended the two school principals for their efforts in nurturing talents. He also pledged to equip the schools and explore opportunities for future partnerships. Notably, Solidarity Boys is one of the two schools that the FKF has inaugurated as centers of excellence with a focus on developing football talents.
The school, inaugurated on February 24, 2021, along with St Peter’s Boys’ Mumias, then under the management of Chief Principal Nabungolo, on March 10 of the same year, has been benefiting from the FKF program, receiving equipment and technical support to aid in the development of elite athletes.
Furthermore, the schools have been offering full scholarships to talented boys, ensuring they have access to secondary education while honing their football skills.
Mwendwa’s visit coincided with St Anthony’s Boys’ Kitale preparation for the KSSSA national games, which will take place in Kakamega from 7th to 12th of this month. The five-time national champions find themselves in pool B, alongside teams from Nairobi Region, Eastern, and Coast.
The FKF President also promised to continue touring other schools in subsequent visits, including national Wiyeta and Goseta High School, further emphasizing the federation’s commitment to fostering football talent development at the grassroots level.
