Luanda Villa and Rainbow FC earned promotion to the National Super League for the first time in the clubs’ history after earning a win and a loss respectively in their final fixtures of the league.
The Western-based Luanda Villa entered the final day needing a win against table-toppers Zoo FC to pip them to the Division One Zone B title and they proved equal to the task.
They entered the game on the front foot and their efforts bore fruits when Doreck Otieno scored from a set piece just after the water break in the first half. Villa held on to the lead to the final whistle which saw them pip their opponents to the automatic promotion spot by a point.
Villa finished the league on 62 points having won 18 times, lost 2 times, and shared spoils on 8 occasions. Kericho-based Zoo FC won 20 of their games, drew once, and lost 7 times bringing their points tally to 61.
Meanwhile, in Zone A, Rainbow FC earned promotion at the expense of Nairobi United despite losing their final match.
Rainbow FC lost 1-0 to Kibra United but piped Naibos to promotion due to a superior goal difference.
Both teams accumulated 68 points but Rainbow came having a goal difference of 36 against Nairobi United’s 28.
Nairobi United scored 56 goals and conceded 25 while Rainbow scored 64 times and let in goals 28 times.
Zoo FC will play Nairobi United in a promotional playoff to determine the third team that will join the NSL from Division One.
